Alien Menus - System Requirements

We have endeavoured to ensure that these menus work properly with all common current and recent web environments.

Tested browsers include:
  • Internet Explorer 4 and later (especially 6)
  • Netscape 4.5 to 4.7
  • Netscape 6 and later
  • Safari
Tested operating systems include:
  • Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, XP
  • Mac OS9 and OSX
Tested java virtual machines include:
  • Microsoft 1.1.4 (final)
  • Symantec 1.1.5 (final)
  • Sun 1.3.x, 1.4.x
  • MRJ (various versions)
While we strive for a uniform performance and appearance for Alien Menus on all platforms, please note that differences in the quality and nature of browsers, operating systems and virtual machines has consequences. Some examples of environment-specific feature variation:
  • "Top-level initial rollover launching of submenus" is a feature available with Microsoft and Symantec VM's, but not with Sun VM's or the MRJ, since the latter do not support this unless signing is used.
  • Sun VM's with version 1.4 and later (and most non-Sun VM's) are able to support more persistent menus - i.e. when clicked, the submenus can remain where they are rather than disappearing. This creates a more user-friendly experience in conjunction with checkbox usage. Sun VM's with a version number of 1.3 and lower provide a less pleasing experience in respect of submenu persistence and checkbox usage.
